What it is
It is the heart of the system: the cartridge holding the anti-limescale product and the dosing mechanism. When you change it, the calibration mechanism is renewed as well, so the dose stays right cartridge after cartridge.
How long it lasts
Around 35,000 litres. As a rule of thumb, reckon one cartridge per person per year: in a house of four, about four cartridges a year. That is why the buy 5, get 1 free pack exists: six cartridges for €121.00 instead of €145.20, more than a year of replacements in most homes.
How many cartridges will you need in a year?
A guide, not a rule. We reckon one cartridge of about 35,000 litres per person per year; real use depends on the household. The red ball in the cartridge tells you the exact moment to change it.
When to change it
The red ball in the cartridge acts as a level indicator and shows when it needs replacing. A glance once a month is enough. The cartridge is translucent, so you can see it from outside without taking anything apart.
How to change it, in 6 steps
Close the stopcock
The one on the inlet side of the unit.
Bleed the water
Put a small container underneath and open the bleed valve at the bottom to empty the unit.
Unscrew the bowl
Turn the body anticlockwise and take out the used cartridge.
Fit the new cartridge
And close the bleed valve.
Screw the bowl back on
Turn the body clockwise as far as it goes.
Open the stopcock slowly
And check that there are no leaks.
If the house has been without water use for a while, after a holiday for instance, follow your water company's advice on running the taps before using the water.
Safety
The product is safe for consumption. If a cartridge were to break, the powder could come into contact with your hands: wash them with soap and water. If it gets in your eyes, rinse with water. If irritation persists, or if undiluted powder is swallowed, see a doctor.
Compatibility
It fits all Foracal systems, with and without the pre-filter. If you have a doser from another brand, ask us before buying.
